Upgrading PHP and Databases

# Top

Depending on your hosting provider, the process to upgrade PHP and your database may differ. Some hosts provide you with a self-service upgrade, some will upgrade you automatically, while others require you to open a support request.

Check your hosts documentation to see if you can upgrade yourself.

LifterLMS is a powerful learning management system and software application. Running a transactional, interactive website with online learning features requires more hosting resources than a simple portfolio type website that just has content-based web pages.

  • LifterLMS can function on low-cost, shared hosting setups.
  • But, as your website gets more successful with more visitors, more logged in users, and large catalogs of courses, you may need to upgrade to a hosting account with more resources.
  • Websites with lots of traffic, users, and concurrent logins should expect to spend at least $30 per month on hosting.

If your website is slow to load, you are likely on a hosting plan without enough resources to support your learning management system needs.

If you are experiencing issues with user login states and content not displaying correctly for your users, your web host may be caching dynamic content, like the student dashboard, which will not allow your website to function correctly.

Ask your web host to avoid caching of dynamic LifterLMS pages or move to a LifterLMS recommended web host where caching problems are not present.
